It’s already been a year since the 2018 Olympic Winter Games were successfully held in PyeongChang. Many people were proud of the global festival held in the small city of PyeongChang, where they laughed and cried while cheering for the athletes of their country.
On February 8, 2019, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, the Olympic Value Education Program was held at Jinbu Middle School (Pyeongchang-gun, Jinbu-myeon). The event was hosted by an organization called Sports Connected (Corporation ‘Passion Connected), which is led by Kim A-ram, a former member of the education team of PyeongChang Organizational Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Although the event took place during the winter vacation period, many students have participated in the event, leading to more significance.
The students of Jinbu Middle School had received Olympic Education during the preparation period of the PyeongChang Olympic Games, and in particular, they have also taken part in an Olympic Athletes Exchange Program with the U.S Embassy, making this event and the reunion even more special.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had also joined the event to film the entire meeting and perform interviews with the participants, and the event will be introduced in the form of a video clip at the 134th General Assembly of the International Olympic Committee.
Han Min-soo, the former captain of the Korean Para Ice Hockey Team and the bronze medalist of the PyeongChang2018 Paralympic Winter Games, joined the event to tell about his experience as a torchbearer and the moment he won the bronze medal. In particular, he brought his own medal and showed it to the students, drawing a great amount of attention. He stated that “I joined this program to let the teenagers know about the meaning of the Olympic spirit and also about the Paralympics so that I can tell the students about the true meaning of having hopes and dreams.”
Chung In-gu, a student at Jinbu Middle School, said “I was very satisfied with this entire event. In particular, it was really nice to meet Han Min-soo because I was able to know more about Para Ice Hockey.” During the Olympic Value Education Program, many events such as the Olympic Quiz and Pipe Hole-in-one (a co-op game in which the participants must move a small ball to a cup, which is located at the end of the room, by only using a half-circle shaped pipe) has been held.
Kim A-ram, who hosted the entire program, showed satisfaction about the program by saying “It was a very special experience overall. The Shibutani Twin (U.S Olympic Figure Skating Team) Program has allowed us to establish a link with the students of Jinbu Middle School, so I always wanted to come back here. I think that ‘Sports’ have a power that connects people.”
Seven Hundred (CEO: Lee Kyu-sang), a sponsor of Passion Connected, was in charge of supporting the creation/production of video content, including photo shooting and drone shooting of the event.
